This figurine was made to represent Marthas grandmother. Bessie. and herself (nicknamed Corkie by her grandfather). When Martha was about eight years old. her grandmother cut up her Aunt Nells old green satin evening gown and. using her treadle sewing machine. turned it into a beautiful long housecoat just for Martha. She felt like a real princess playing house in such an elegant outfit.
